Programs That Matter

The Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg offers programs and services that promote and enhance the development of our boys and girls.

Power Hour

Power Hour is a great opportunity for kids and teens to get their homework completed in a quiet place with support from trained, caring staff at a Boys & Girls Club.  We are committed to focusing on academics.

Junior Staff

Junior Staff is a small-group program that is both practical and user friendly. It assists Club members ages 13 to 18 in exploring a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work.

Triple Play

Triple Play is a comprehensive health and wellness program. It strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing daily physical activity and teaching them about good nutrition and healthy relationships.

Keystone Club

Keystone Clubs provide leadership development opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18.  They focus in three areas of academic success, career preparation and community service with an adult.

Torch Club

Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. This is a powerful vehicle helping Club staff meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents.

Youth of the Year

Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program. It is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy.

D2D

diplomas2Degrees is a college readiness program for ages 13+ providing services to guide Club members working toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success.

Arts & Crafts

The BGC provides the opportunity for Club members to engage in arts and crafts activities to develop cognitive, social, and emotional skills necessary for learning.

Badges for Baseball (Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation) - The life-skills training program pairs at-risk youth with law enforcement mentors from local communities who use team sports to teach valuable life lessons.  
Career Launch - prepares teens for the world of careers and work. Through Career Launch, Club members 13-18 years old embark on a journey to explore possible vocations, make sound educational decisions and find success in the world of work.

Club Gardeningthrough fun learning activities, club members grow and produce food to use in the kitchen and to take home; a farm-to-table initiative. The major themes include gardening, nutrition and healthy eating, food preparation, local food history and culture, drug use prevention through healthy eating, teamwork, agricultural careers, conservation, and ecology.

Club Store – is an incentive store that supports the developmental goals of positive behavior reinforcement; goal‑setting skills, and equity and motivation. Youth see a direct connection between effort and reward as points for attendance, participation, leadership, homework completion, etc., are earned.
Esportselectronic sports," refers to competitive video gaming organized and played on various platforms, such as computers, consoles, and mobile devices. An eSports program provides a structured and inclusive environment where Club members can engage in competitive gaming, develop their skills, and foster teamwork and sportsmanship. 
Industrial Arts - provides Club members with the ability to gain a solid grounding and obtain skills in the areas of tool safety, hand tool identification, basic weights, and measurements.  Additionally, Club members learn the art of handcrafting, entrepreneurial capabilities and skills.
Kid Café - the BGC, in collaboration with the Kid’s Café of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, hosts a feeding program during the after-school program, Monday through Friday from September-May where snacks and dinner are provided. The summer feeding program, which is an extension of the Kid’s Café, runs from June through mid-August where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided.
Summer Brain Gain - is six weeks of fun, theme-based activities designed to mitigate or prevent summer learning loss and keep young people on track for the coming school year. The program targets early and upper elementary, middle, and high school youth.
Mentoring - young people find positive adult mentors in staff and volunteers who notice their strengths, listen to their concerns, and open up doors of possibility. From connecting youth to a program that deepens their interests to sparking their curiosity in a future career field, inspiring mentors help kids and teens explore their full potential.
MyFuture - is a web platform which provides Club members and staff with high quality activities to explore and learn new skills, earn recognition, and share their work with their peers.  Delivered through MyFuture, Digital Literacy Essentials guide youth ages 8-15 to explore digital safety, digital privacy, digital presence, online communication, and retro gaming. 
Passport to Manhood - promotes and teaches responsibility in Club males ages 8-17. Passport to Manhood represents a targeted effort to engage boys in discussions and activities which reinforce character, leadership, and positive behavior. Each of the program’s 14 sessions use interactive activities to focus on a specific aspect of character and manhood. 
Positive Action - systematic program which builds intrinsic motivation and encourages kindness and cooperation, among youth and adults.
SMART Girls (Skills Mastery and Resilience Training) - is a small-group health, fitness, prevention education, and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls in three age groups, spanning ages 8 to 18. 
SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resilience Training) - teaches essential social-emotional skills to Club members ages 6 to 15 which enable them to communicate effectively, make healthy decisions, and refuse to engage in unhealthy behaviors. SMART Moves is a prevention and education program
Sports Leagues, ALL STARS - the mission is to provide a sense of belonging, build life skills, and build self-confidence through teamwork. The Club offers sports leagues in basketball, cheerleading, drum line, football, baseball, softball, and step teams.
